Warning: Emails regarding Trademarks misusing the name of a genuine solicitor purporting to be from 'Jason Stephens Legal'

12 January 2026

Emails have been sent from 'Jason Stephens Legal', purporting to be from a genuine law firm misusing the details and name of a genuine solicitor in connection with purported trademarking applications.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to several recipients purporting to be from Jason Stephens Legal.

The recipients of the emails have received multiple emails from individuals purporting to be genuine solicitors (see below) regarding trademarks applications which have been submitted to the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). The correspondence invites the recipient to secure trademark registration of the company name and offers to assist with this process and if they do not follow the guidance and advise they could face legal consequences.

We have also seen emails where recipients have responded to the sender’s email, and they have provided package options for their services and advised that once they make payment they will be fully protected for the next 10 years.

The correspondence has falsely purported to be from different supposed 'Intellectual Property Solicitors' at the firm. At the time of publication, the correspondence seen by the SRA misuses the name and SRA number of one genuine solicitor (see below), although further names may be similarly misused in further correspondence. The correspondences seen so far have been sent from the following email addresses:

  • jason@jasonstephenslegal.com
  • jason@jasonstephensiplegals.com

The emails also provide two different website address of ‘jasonstephenslegal.com’ and ‘jasonstephensiplegals.com’.

Any business or transactions through the email address and web address mentioned above are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a genuine firm of solicitors Jason Stephens Legal.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine Solicitor called Jason Stephens with the SRA ID number 586860.

Jason Stephens has confirmed that he has no connection to the above matter.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
