Warning: A lease document falsely claiming to be connected to or approved by Loran Beynon of JNP Legal Limited
25 November 2024
A lease has been falsely claimed to be connected to Loran Beynon of JNP Legal, using a 'stamp' that is not genuine.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that a lease document has been falsely presented to a third party as being connected to a genuine solicitor from a genuine firm of solicitors.
The lease has been presented carrying a 'stamp' that includes the name of the firm in the centre, and the name of the genuine solicitor and their individual SRA ID number around the outside, within an outer circle. The stamp used purports to be signed by the solicitor but is not genuine and misuses the name and details of the genuine firm and solicitor (see below for details of the genuine firm and solicitor).
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called JMP Legal Limited, with the SRA ID: 562715. The firm's address is 15 Glebeland Street,Merthyr Tydfil CF47 8AU.
The SRA also authorises and regulates a solicitor called Loran Beynon (SRA ID: 575595), who is employed by JNP Legal Limited.
JNP Legal Limited has confirmed that neither the firm nor Loran Beynon have any genuine connection to the certified lease or stamp referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
